Maybelline Hyper Curl Volum' Express Mascara Review

I really love curling my lashes. I can go on a whole day without foundation or blush, but not without mascara.

So, I am always on the lookout for a good and inexpensive brand.

My friend introduced me to this mascara. I borrowed hers a couple of times until I realized it was really worth the money so I went ahead to the nearest drugstore to purchase my own.

Maybelline Hypercurl Volum' Express Waterproof Mascara claims to give amazing length and 3x more volume without clumps. It also claims to give a 75-degree curl in an instant.

It is also ophthalmologist tested and safe for everyday use, even with contact lenses.

The mascara comes in a black tube with a silver cap and pink inscription.

PRICE: This product sells for Php249 or about $6.

The wand also takes the shape of a crescent that makes application easier as it touches every lashes at each stroke. It is also full cone-shaped which is the perfect wand for widening eyes. It gives thick application of mascara and therefore thickens the lashes.

This type of wand, however, is not suitable for lower lashes.

Here are some photos showing the transition prior and after application.

No Mascara - Lashes uncurled

No mascara - Lashes curled

Two coats of Maybelline Hyper Curl Volum' Express Mascara

PROS:

  • This brand is cheaper compared to other mascaras
  • It comes in jet black formula which makes the lashes appear thicker and fuller
  • No weird/stingy scent
  • Available at local drugstores/department stores
CONS:
  • Hard to apply and build up
  • Formula is too thick, so second coat tends to clump
  • Leaves "spider legs" looking lashes
  • Doesn't hold the lashes for too long, you may need to recurl

This mascara is good if you want to save some bucks and if you are looking for a mascara that you can use on a daily basis. It is about 1/3 the price of other mascaras in the market but it also gives the same volumizing effect. However, I found that second application could get a bit tricky as it tends to clump and the product tends to build up on the lashes so you may need to comb your lashes with a separate lash comb. But if you are looking for a back up mascara or you just want to try a great yet inexpensive product, then this one is really worth trying.
