How To Make Nails Grow Stronger And Longer

Nails are an important part of a woman's appearance. They say you will know if a person knows how to maintain cleanliness just by looking at her nails. For some people, keeping their nails clean and short are enough for them. But how about for those who want to grow their nails? This article is intended to give tips and suggestions to people who want to have longer nails and for those people who have long nails but are brittle and break too easily.

One important factor to brittle and weak nails is a body lacking in nutrition. When your health is doing badly, so are your nails. If your nails are opaque in color or curl at the ends then you might want to consult a doctor because these may be signs of vitamin deficiency or illness.

Common fingernail problems:

  • Weak
  • Too soft
  • Curved
  • Yellowish
  • It grows but it cracks at the middle
  • Develops ridges
  • Too brittle
  • Top layer peels off

Tips and Tricks:

  • Drink lots of water.
70% of our body consists of water. Just like how it is in body and hair, fingernails require certain nutrients to thrive, plenty of water could help in making nails grow longer and stronger. Drink 8-10 glasses of water a day.

  • Check your diet
The growth and health of your nails is reflected in your diet.Protein deficient people tend to have weaker nails. Eat protein-rich foods like chicken, eggs, lean meat, soybeans and low-fat cheese. You may also drink milk. The vitamin D content of milk will enhance nail growth.
Eating vitamin A rich foods can also be helpful. Increase your intake of vitamin A by eating like carrots, apricots and mangoes. This can help your nails grow faster.
Drinking orange juice would also be helpful since orange juice contains vitamin C which increases production of collagen. This collagen helps the skin to stay firm allowing your nails to be healthy thus making them grow faster.

  • Rub garlic on your fingernails

Rubbing garlic on your fingernails can make them grow faster. Don't rinse your nails for one and a half hour. After the waiting time, you can rinse your fingers and rub lemon onto them to remove garlic smell. Just try to avoid rubbing garlic on your skin or it could get stingy and it may lead to skin burn.
  • Have your manicure regularly
Good nail hygiene and maintenance can both improve the health of your nails thus making them grow stronger and faster. Also pushing the cuticles back during a manicure can stimulate growth. Just be sure to push gently and never cut the cuticles. This can kill the root and cause the nail to fall off and die. You can have your manicure yourself or have it done by a professional nail technician. And take note, regularly but not too frequently.
  • Use a nail polish that promotes nail growth
There are some "organic" nail polishes in that market that promotes faster nail growth. Apply them on your nails regularly. Also, painting your nails gives an extra layer onto the nail that will help strengthen and help them remain strong as they grow. If you don't want to color on your nails, use a clear nail polish.

  • Wear gloves when doing the dishes/laundry
Doing the dishes/laundry in harsh detergent may weaken the nails and make them brittle. Harsh soaps, ammonia and bleach makes nails brittle and weak. After you wash your hands or make an extreme job, always make it a habit to apply a moisturizer to your hands and fingernails.
  • Rethink your nail polish habits
If you wear nail polish every single day, your nails will never get the chance to breathe because the nail polish forms a solid barrier. Nail polish and remover are also known for being very drying to your nails. Acetone is a harsh chemical that removes nail polish quickly, but also dries out the nails. At the most, use nail polish remover once a week.

  • Give your nails some rest
Give your nails at least three days of "nail polish rest" so that your nails can have a chance to recuperate and breathe.

  • Buff your nails
A nice way to get blood circulating to your nails and improve their appearance all at once is to buff them. Buffing your nails will help to make them shiny and smooth because it exfoliates away all the ridges.

  • Consider cuticle oil
Oil is absolutely wonderful for nails. Apply oil to clean nails and rub gently into cuticles and nails. This is best to do before you sleep so you can allow the oil to get into the tissue overnight. Adding oils high in fatty acids,anti-oxidants and nutrients to a cuticle will result to fast growing nails.
  • Keep your nails warm
Nails grow faster in hot climates. Rub some oil onto your fingernails then wear gloves and keep them overnight. A good alternative would be Olive Oil. Rub and massage olive oil onto your hands, palms and finger then wear gloves. This will not only bring benefits to your fingernails but will also do wonders to your hands! If you are from a country with cooler temperature, wear gloves to keep your hands warm. Keeping your hands warm always increases blood flow to your fingernails thus stimulates their growth.

Having longer and stronger nails is not always as hard as it may seem. True, it could take a lot of effort and patience to achieve the sexy and elegant hands and nails that you want, but with just the right amount of patience and discipline you'll have longer nails in no time and the results will be well worth the effort and wait.
